Updates from L2: Empuraan, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2019 film Lucifer, have been pouring in. The film’s cast includes Mohanlal, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier and more. On Wednesday, the makers dropped the first look poster featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran’s character Zayed Massod.

The actor-director took to his social media handle to share the poster in a video. Opening up about the role, Prithviraj shared, “In Lucifer, you were introduced to Zayed only as the mercenary commando of the infamous nexus of Khureshi Ab’raam who controls the world’s gold and diamond trade. Like every character in this franchise, scripted by Murali Gopy, Zayed also has a past, a backstory about a world that was his. You would briefly get to know what that is and how Khureshi Ab’raam became a part of that through Empuraan in the Lucifer franchise.”

L2: Empuraan’s plot

Opening up about the sequel’s story, Prithviraj shared, “In Lucifer, you have seen a complex world filled with a lot of characters and the dynamics between them. In Empuraan, this will increase further and you will also see the backdrop become bigger. That said, amid all this, we believe there’s a coherent narrative to this story.”

He added, “Lucifer ends by making us believe that there isn’t a bigger force in this world that can go against Khureshi Ab’raam. Was that the truth or was it a misplaced assumption?”

L2: Empuraan’s ensemble cast

The film’s star-studded cast is a mix of Indian and global talent. Recently, the makers revealed that Game of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn will be a major player in L2. Fans will recognise him as Bronn from the hit series, a mercenary who joins Tyrion Lannister and ultimately becomes his right-hand man. In a video message, Flynn shared, “I can’t quite remember how I got into this project, but I am so glad I did. It was a completely different experience from what I am used to. To be part of the Mollywood culture of things, to get a taste of that, was really special.”

More recently, Mohanlal introduced Abhimanyu Singh’s character. He joins the expansive cast alongside Indrajith Sukumaran, Enriq Ebouaney, Caroline Koziol, Saniya Iyappan, Shakti Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi and more.
