Actor Suriya, currently on a whirlwind promotional tour for his upcoming film Retro, made a heartfelt appeal to fans in Thiruvananthapuram, urging them to steer clear of smoking. Although he has portrayed smokers in some of his films, Suriya emphasized his personal stance against the habit. “I smoke only for the sake of my characters,” he said. “Please don’t pick it up in real life. Even one puff can trap you. It’s something I would never endorse.”

Addressing a massive crowd at the event — which also saw co-stars Joju George and Jayaram in attendance — Suriya shared his excitement about collaborating with director Karthik Subbaraj, calling it a long-cherished dream. “This film has Karthik’s unique style and flavour. We shot it like a family for four months. It’s unlike anything I’ve done before, and I hope you all love it,” he said. He also lauded Joju George and Jayaram for their performances and praised filmmaker Alphonse Puthren, who edited the film’s dynamic trailer.

The actor also expressed deep gratitude. Calling the people of Thiruvananthapuram his extended family, he said, “I bow before you for standing here patiently for hours. I have no words to thank you enough for the love you’ve shown. Kerala truly is God’s Own Country, a land that embraces all forms of art.”

Retro features music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna, and editing by Shafique Mohamed. The film, which wrapped filming last October, has been certified U/A and has a runtime of 2 hours, 48 minutes, and 30 seconds.
