Ahead of its grand release Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 undergoes last minute tweaks as CBFC orders dialogue modification to avoid controversy. Here’s what changed and why.

Anticipation for Raid 2  is reaching a fever pitch with fans eager to see actor Ajay Devgn reprise his iconic role of IRS officer Amay Patnaik. However, before the film hit theatres on May 1, it faced a minor hurdle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) suggesting key changes to the dialogues.

As per reports, the CBFC asked the makers to replace the phrase “Railway Mantri” with “Bada Mantri” in one instance, and completely remove an eight-second dialogue, “Paisa, hathyar, taakat”, which appeared at the beginning of the film. These changes were recommended to prevent any political sensitivities, given the heightened scrutiny around portrayals of government officials in cinema today.

Interestingly, Raid 2 secured its censor certificate as early as March 28, well ahead of its May release date, a rare move considering most films get certified only a week or two before hitting theatres. The CBFC granted the film a U/A 7+ rating, part of the new categorisation system introduced in late 2024, marking Raid 2 among the first major Bollywood titles to receive this age-specific classification.

Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, who also helmed the 2018 hit Raid, the sequel promises a gripping narrative, with Riteish Deshmukh stepping in as the antagonist alongside Vaani Kapoor. With no visual cuts ordered, the film retains its intensity, offering a mix of action, suspense, and drama– true to the spirit of its predecessor.

Previously, the movie’s prequel, Raid, was a box office hit. Collecting Rs.100 crores, Raid captivated audiences. Saurabh Shukla, who enamoured audiences with his stellar performance as an antagonist in the prequel, has been brought back in Raid 2.

Despite the minor dialogue tweaks, the excitement surrounding Raid 2 remains undiminished. Devgn’s portrayal of an unwavering officer standing against corruption continues to resonate with audiences, and the sequel seems poised to deliver yet another powerful punch at the box office.
