Aditya 369 holds the distinction of being the first Indian film based on the concept of time travel. The classic sci-fi film, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and produced by Sivalenka Krishna Prasad, is all set to re-release on April 4. Directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao and presented by S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, the film originally released in 1991 and became a sensational hit. After 34 years, the film is being re-released on April 4 with advanced 4K digitization and 5.1 surround sound for a richer experience.
Talking about the film, Balakrishna revealed that the script came to him at a time when he was exploring diversity in filmography. Adding that variations in the characters are the key, he took inspiration from his father late and legendary actor NT Rama Rao. “My father inspired me to play a de-glamorized role in Bhairava Dweepam, and King Sri Krishnadevaraya in Aditya 369. When director Singeetam garu, Krishna Prasad garu, and Balasubrahmanyam garu approached me with this unique concept, I immediately agreed. The variation in the two characters that I played was only possible when you truly immerse yourself in the soul of each character,” the actor stated.
Apparently, only one surviving print of Aditya 369 was found. The team at Prasad Labs worked tirelessly for eight months to restore it. “Aditya 369 belongs to the league of classics like Sri Krishna Pandaveeyam and Dana Veera Soora Karna. Gen Z will continue to watch this film and experience the joy. I am indebted and fortunate to be part of Aditya 369 and I am also excited to announce that the sequel to this film will begin soon.,” he added.
Producer Sivalenka Krishna Prasad expressed happiness that the re-release trailer got a great response. He adds that re-releasing Aditya 369 brings him immense joy. “I still remember, back then, many prominent personalities visited the sets to watch the film shooting. No matter how many films I produce, the respect that Aditya 369 got me continues to guide me.”
