Ryan Gosling is reportedly in talks to star in a new standalone Star Wars film directed by Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool and Wolverine. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy has been developing this project since 2022 with screenwriter Jonathan Tropper, his collaborator on films like This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project. The film will be produced by Levy’s 21 Laps banner alongside Lucasfilm and Star Wars veteran Kathleen Kennedy.
The plot details remain under wraps, with no word on whether it will include Jedi or Sith characters. However, it’s clear the story will be separate from the famous Skywalker Saga, which followed Luke Skywalker and his father, Anakin. Instead, this film will focus on a fresh narrative set in the vast Star Wars universe, spanning centuries of galactic history.
Gosling’s potential involvement has fast-tracked the project, originally delayed as Levy considered other films, including a boy band comedy with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. If finalized, filming could start this autumn, making it Levy’s next big venture. Meanwhile, The Mandalorian wrapped filming in December, with a release set for May 2026.
